Sierra Leone Supreme Court dismisses Samura Kamara’s eligibility matter

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has dismissed a matter contesting the nomination of Dr. Samura Kamara as the All People's Congress (APC) party Presidential candidate for the 2018 Presidential election.

Plaintiff, Mohamed Ayoba Joaque on the 3rd March 2018, filed an application contesting the eligibility of Dr. Samura Kamara to run for the APC as Standard bearer, which he ended up getting.

Amongst the plaintiff grounds of appeal, was that the defendant Samura Kamara did not resign his public office position, having been made Minister of Finance, and ended up being the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, under the Ernest Bai Koroma led government in the run-up to the 2018 Election.

He also claimed that Defendant is also a British citizen, which according to him, needed some level of interpretation by Judges of the highest Court (Supreme Court).

The Judges of the Supreme Court consisting of Justice Eku Robert, Justice Vivian Solomon, and Justice Nicolas Browne Marke, the presiding judge ruled on the application.

After reading the laws concerning the said matter, they ended up dismissing the matter, with a cost that should be borne by the plaintiff.

Defendant Samura Kamara, was in Court, with some of his supporters in the morning hour of the court with smiles on his face, after the proceeds came to the end.
