The Chancellor of Njala University, Sierra Leone, Professor Sahr Moses Gevao, has given direction to Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma as the substantive Vice-Chancellor and Principal for the university.
His appointment was made on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, but he is, however, expected to cause an activity effective September 1, 2022, for a three-year duration.
Professor Koroma, before his appointment, was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of one of the university campuses (Njala Campus), and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Njala University. He was also chairman of the University Internal Scoring Committee and a staff member of the School of Environmental Sciences.
The new Vice-Chancellor and Principal, according to the university's communication and public relations unit, is accredited with the establishment of various schools, programs, and courses in the university.
The university described him as a person that had left an ‘indelible footprint’ at the School of Postgraduate Studies, in terms of developing the studies policy framework and the introduction of courses that are relevant to the present-day job market.
Professor Bashiru Mohamed Koroma's appointment as Chairman of the University’s Internal Scoring Committee in 2020, saw an accelerated process in the area of appointing professors and associate professors within the University.
The substantive Vice-Chancellor and Principal have represented Njala University as a council member at the Statistics Sierra Leone Board and provide consultancies and expert knowledge to various government ministries, departments, and agencies, the university stated.
Professor Koroma is an accomplished researcher with several publications to his credit in renowned and credible international journals. He became a professor in 2014 and has respectfully served various vice and acting vice-chancellors in several capacities at the university.
The professor is a mentor to many who now occupy various senior academic and administrative positions at the university.
