Makeni records Encouraging COVID vaccine turnout

The operations pillar lead attached to the Bombali District Emergency Response Center Lieutenant Colonel Idrissa Sonkoi Kamara says the weekend has been very busy in Makeni for key stakeholders involved in the rolling out of the Coronavirus vaccines as football enthusiasts including key stakeholders, players and officials of football clubs, together with bike (okada) riders turnout proved very encouraging.


During the vaccination of Football Administrators in Bombali District as well as Wusum Stars players and officials held at the Makeni Wusum Stadium on Saturday, 11th September 2021, Colonel Kamara remarked that he is impressed that other football clubs players, officials as well as Okada riders among other football enthusiasts turned out for their jabs.


He underscored that the Saturday vaccination is in line with a joint communiqué signed on 28th August, 2021 by the National COVID-19 Emergency Response Center -(NaCOVERC), the Ministry of Sports and the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) that was officially launched on Tuesday 31st August, at the Presidential Stands of the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown which further required vaccination sites to be stationed at designated match venues in the provinces.

He continued that “Taking the COVID-19 vaccine will boost your chances of being safe from contacting the deadly virus while abiding by the COVID-19 preventive health measures.

“We will continue to collaborate with the government health authorities as well heighten our operations as emergency operatives attached at DiOVERC while teaming up with partners to continue to encourage other people in Bombali district that are yet to take the vaccines to do so,” he assured.

In the watchful eyes of Pressmen, over thirty players and officials of North-East region sole representative team at the eighteen teams National Premier League Wusum Stars Football Club together with female players of Mena Queens Football Club and their officials in Makeni plus some Bike riders took their doses of the COVID-19 vaccines which amounted to a total of one hundred and ninety people who were vaccinated last Saturday, 11th September, with the highest being 7th September, according to the District Health Management Team in Bombali.


Meanwhile, Bombali district remained safe so far clocking nearly ninety days without recording a positive COVID-19 case and in the Month of September has recorded a cumulative total of two thousand two hundred and twenty-nine (2,229) persons being vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccines (AstraZeneca and Sinopharm) with two hundred and sixty-six of the total number of vaccinated person in the district accounting for people that have taken their second dose of the vaccines.
