55 Foreign nationals were sentenced to 1-month of imprisonment and face deportation

The Sierra Leone Magistrate Court in the Eastern Region presided over by magistrate Abdul Carew, has sentenced 55 foreign nationals includes, 3 Ivorians, 20 Malians, and 32 Guineans on four count charges. The matter involving 63 accused persons among them 10 Sierra Leoneans, 3 Ivorians, 20 Malians, and 32 Guineans was laid to rest when they made their last appearance in the Magistrate court no. 1 in Kenema, in the Eastern region of Sierra Leone.

They were before the court to answer to four-count charges.

Count one unlawful assembly contrary to section 10 (1) of the Public Order Act no. 46 of 1965. Particulars state that Andrew Sahr Katta, Jawara Suro, Samura Kamara, and others on Thursday 22nd July 2021 at no. 15 School Drive IDA section, Kenema city, Nongowa chiefdom, Kenema judicial district in the eastern province of the Republic of Sierra Leone unlawfully assembled at the said address.

Count two Illegal entries contrary to section 16 (1) of the non-citizens and expulsion Act no. 14 of 1965.

Count three entering Sierra Leone without valid traveling certificate contrary to section 19 (2) (1)(i) (f) (a) of the non-citizens (Registration, Immigration, and Expulsion) Act no. 14 of 1965

Count four failing to register as non-citizens, contrary to section 6 (1) of the non-citizen's registration, Immigration and Expulsion Act no. 14 of 1965.

Magistrate Abdul Carew sentenced the accused persons to one-month imprisonment or pay the sum of Le250,000 for count one, count two and three, deportation, and count four Le200,000 or one-month imprisonment. The matter was prosecuted by ASP Daniel Lahai Konneh while Maada Momoh Sheku Koroma Esq represented the accused persons.
